Challenge Based Learning provides students with an opportunity to learn while solving real-world Problems or Challenges. It involves collaboration, hands on activities, asking questions (being inquirers), discover or solve a challenge, gain subject knowledge, develop 21st century learning skills and be able to share your ideas with the world. All of those skills are so important for students to learn because it will help prepare them for the future. In my class I like to challenge students to solve their own problems. I usually never answer a question the first time it’s asked but in return answer with a question back. I want the students to really think about what they are asking and if they can find the answer themselves.
Some other things that stuck out from this session’s icare was the Zarrta Hammod video. First thing was about building rapport and how it is very important. It’s important to build those authentic relationships which will help engagement and learning. The other piece that stuck out was the idea that Its ok to fail, because it teaches you something. I encourage my students that it’s better to fail and learn from it than to just get the right answer all the time.. It’s about how do you get the answer and the process that you take to get there. I am collecting quantitative data based upon teacher observations. I will be gathering individual student data and class data.
My blog today is going to address some parts of the ready for rigor document about culturally responsive teaching:

So What? Who Cares?
Technology is able to help prepare students for the future whether that is college or a career. It can provide our students with equal access to content when it’s not always available to them. Technology can help students become prepared for the real world, like how most jobs that our students are going to have in the future do not exist right now. They need help to prepare to be able to adapt to an ever changing world. They need to be taught 21st century skills like problem solving and critical thinking. They need to be able to figure out how to find the answer to their questions and find if that question is reliable or not. Methodology The plan is to use a new program with technology twice a week. The schedule will be for Tuesdays during regular schedule and Wednesday or Thursday during the block schedule. The regular schedule days are periods 1-7 where each class runs 43 minutes. The block days are as follows: on Wednesday, periods 1-3, each class is 1 hour and 15 minutes. On Thursday, it’s period 4-7, and class runs the same amount of time, 1 hour and 15 minutes. During these technology days there will be data taken from a few different sources. There will be qualitative and quantitative data based upon teacher observations. Each assignment the teacher will record observations on how many times students ask how to use that particular piece of technology, this is the qualitative piece. The teacher will also note if students help other students figure out how to use the website. All data taken during this study is based on student’s ability to use and navigate a particular website and not their ability to understand the content. |
